– Central Bedfordshire Branch

A lovely lady came to us following an unfortunate fracture to her spine. This injury resulted in being unable to mobilise fully and significantly impacted the ability to safely carry out everyday tasks such as dressing and meal preparation. Having our support in place, we were able to provide guidance, reassurance and direction, establishing realistic and achievable goals that we supported our client in achieving. Starting out with support for Personal Care and Meal Preparation, our care team were able to assist and guide this client back to a point in her recovery where she was able to safely begin dressing herself again and also participate in making her daily meals. Our carers worked at the client’s pace, taking her lead to ensure that she was never rushed or pressured to achieve a task or goal. Once our client was comfortable completing her meals with only supervision, they decided that were ready to do this independently, and the support was reduced. Continuing to provide reassurance and guidance with the Personal Care support, again, our carers worked at her pace, monitoring and guiding, whilst being present for any assistance or intervention needed. This continued until we got the call. Our lovely client had reached a point in her recovery where she felt secure and safe in carrying out these tasks independently and expressed her wish to end the service as it was no longer required. By working to establish her goals, progressing at her pace and letting her guide us with what they were and were not comfortable doing, we were able to successfully support in a difficult recovery. We feel that the high continuity of carers and the trusting relationship built over the course of the service had a greatly positive impact in the success of goal achievement.

We are very proud of this lady and continue to wish her all the best.
